WINE REGION

The Balatonfüred-Csopak wine region is one of Hungary’s most renowned wine areas, located on the northern shore of Lake Balaton (Hungary/ Europe). The region has excellent conditions for viticulture, especially for producing white wines such as Riesling and Olaszrizling. The wines from this region are famous for their freshness, fruity aromas, and harmonious acidity, thanks to the unique microclimate and the proximity of Lake Balaton.

HISTORY
The history of the Balatonfüred-Csopak wine region dates back to antiquity, when the Romans were already cultivating grapes in this area. In the Middle Ages, the Benedictine order played a significant role in the development of the wine region, while in the 18th and 19th centuries, noble estates and the bourgeoisie boosted viticulture. Today, the region’s modern wineries and tradition-preserving cellars both contribute to the international reputation of Hungarian wines.

TASK
To develop a branding system that can be applied to all the villages in the wine region. This system should have a distinctive and recognizable appearance, yet it should work well with the diverse branding of the region’s wineries without overpowering them. The goal is to design an identity that effectively communicates the local characteristics, combining both historical and modern elements.
APPROACH
In my concept, I incorporated the wines of the wine region into a wine glass shape, featuring the waves of Lake Balaton (the largest lake in Central Europe) and the gentle slopes of the surrounding hills. The local landmarks, such as church towers and lookouts, serve as excellent orientation points, clearly indicating direction and location as they are visible from afar. I built the identity of the wine region by depicting the unique characters of the buildings most characteristic of the localities. In addition, the stylized waves of Lake Balaton and the characteristic contours of the landscape play a significant role in the atmosphere of the design.
